PROJECT DURATION: (JULY 3, 2017-JULY 2, 2021)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
GSI is part of the consortium led by Fichtner Water & Transportation GmbH (Germany) implementing the integrated programme to improve the living conditions in Gulu and small towns Enroute in the Victoria Nile catchment (IPILC), Phase 2 with financial support from the German KfW Development Bank (KfW) and Government of Uganda (GoU).
The consortium is assisting in implementing 3 components, namely:
- Component 1: Water Supply and Sanitation;
- Component 2: Solid Waste Management and Surface Drainage and
- Component 3: Urban Development and pro-poor infrastructure development including project management and controlling.
The Gulu IPILC is a multisector, multi-facetted project being implemented following an integrated approach to further develop the water supply system, to develop a new water source, construct a sewerage system with sewerage and faecal sludge treatment plant, to develop public and private sanitation, to setup a working solid waste management system, to secure drainage in areas affected by flooding and to setup a physical development plan for providing planning security. The project deals with implementing very different measures in different sectors ranging from implementing physical infrastructure measures, carrying out Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns in informal settlements, creating legal, financial and administrative arrangements to delivering active support to the project executing agencies (PEAs).
