DECENTRALIZATION AND LOCAL GOVERNANCE

Governance Systems International believes that increasing citizen participation in decision-making and oversight is critical for holding local leaders accountable and improving service delivery. GSI’s approach to increasing citizen participation in decision-making process at the local level is by providing technical support in participatory methodologies and approaches that helps local governments plan, budget, implement, manage and evaluate public policies effectively and transparently and ultimately improving service delivery.

GSI also designs and implements interventions that strengthen the capacity of local government political leaders to make strategic choices and carry out their representational and oversight functions effectively. GSI design interventions that strengthen local councils in conducting council business as well as strengthening council committees to function effectively.

In Uganda, GSI Experts have been actively involved in decentralization and local governance projects implemented by the government of Uganda and development partners.
